Rice DMZ Korea

A Taste of the Borderland ‘Cheorwon’ (Late Fall & Winter)

Near Seoul Traditional Wellness

How much do you know about Cheorwon? Located along Korea’s divided border, this vast land has been shaped by war, restricted zones, nature, and agriculture. Across the Cheorwon Plain, generations of farmers have cultivated Odae rice, one of the region’s most celebrated products. In late autumn and early winter, after the harvest is complete and the fields fall silent, Cheorwon reveals a very different side of Korea. A Taste of the Borderland follows Odae rice from the land to the table. Explore the plains, visit a local rice mill to see how harvested rice becomes the grain in our bowls, and discover how local rice is transformed through fermentation at a traditional brewery. Taste an Odae rice flower set meal and Neungi Baeksuk filled with rice, and visit a horseradish farm to meet farmers exploring new possibilities for agriculture in this border region. More than a DMZ or food tour, this is a seasonal culinary journey through Cheorwon’s land, agriculture, and people. Experience how the border has shaped the land—and how the land, in turn, shapes what people grow, make, and eat. This tour operates only once a year between late autumn and early winter. The exact date will be announced soon.
